I Still Can't Believe They Threw a Tournament in Rockford...

Before I start gabbing about The Rock, I have to give a shout out to Jenga from Beachfront Property. Not only did he let me use his contact solution at Sandblast, but he also found me at the tournament party and told me that he reads my blog, so I promised him a shout out...hey Jenga!

I can't say I was super impressed with day one of The Rock. I've been playing soccer at the Sportscore II complex since I was about 7 years old, so of course I talked it up a little. When we got there I headed to my field...which was off in the middle of nowhere in an area I'm pretty sure they never set up soccer fields. The field was hilly and the ground was about as hard as...The Rock (ha). Also, pool play was set up so that each team played every team in their pool...there were 6 teams per pool...so 5 games to 13...no byes...no breaks. I'm not one to complain about having to play more ultimate, but my team only had 5 girls the first day...which was rough.

The weather conditions were also less than desirable. Wind became an equalizer in Saturday's pool play games and Prion (the team I'm playing with this summer/fall) was having a tough time getting past the zones being thrown. We ended up going 1-4 on the day, 1-6 on the weekend. Rough weekend for Prion, but I've got to hand it to Angelo, he's a great captain and a great motivator for the team. Come fall I think Prion will be a very different team with his coaching.

Despite crappy fields, bad weather on day one, and the lack of winning, I had a great time catching up with all of my ultimate friends, meeting new friends, and playing the sport I love in my home town. Also, the tournament party was unlimited cosmic bowling for $10 with free drinks...what a great idea.

Next weekend...Willy & Michelle's wedding/Jax Hat...gotta love those ultimate weddings!
